Elegant men’s watches are watches that are characterized by a simple and timeless design, making them particularly suitable for formal occasions and business outfits. A flat watch has a flat case, which is characterized by a low height. Flat watches often have a classic and timeless design, making them particularly suitable for everyday wear and formal occasions.
We have mentioned some well-known brands above. There are, of course, many other brands that offer flat elegant men’s watches that appeal to all budgets.
In the following section, you’ll see which components are really important for an elegant wristwatch in the price range of about 100 to 250 euros. Because only if the whole package is right, you can avoid expensive bad purchases and enjoy your wristwatch all the longer.
The clockwork
In general, it is not advisable to buy watches with NoName movements, as they are usually less durable. We recommend business watches that have Swiss movements like Ronda, or Japanese movements like Miyota built in to significantly extend the life of your watch. The watches with such brand movements generally perform their service faithfully and need to be adjusted very rarely.
If it should be an automatic watch, we recommend movements of brands like ETA, such as the 2824-2, which allows a relatively compact design of the watch, or also movements of the traditional brand Seiko.
The watch glass
There can really only be one choice here, sapphire crystal! It is simply the best glass that you can get in a watch and it has the best functionalities. The watch can actually not get scratches with this glass (exception diamond) and is more shatterproof than the other available glasses.
With some distance, the second place is taken by a glass mixture, which consists of tempered mineral glass with a sapphire coating.
In third place comes tempered mineral glass, which some manufacturers (like Seiko) also call Hardlex glass. In a broad and simplified sense, mineral glass can also be seen as harder window glass.
However, the scratch resistance and shatter resistance of mineral glass can be improved by special treatment with oxides and various chemical processes, so that it is subsequently referred to as “tempered mineral glass”.
The last places in the ranking are occupied by acrylic and Plexiglas, which are inexpensive to manufacture, but in terms of scratch resistance, etc., they can not compete with the properties of the more expensive lenses, and thus, in comparison, they see only the taillights of the other glasses.
The quality of the (leather) bracelet
For leather straps, you need to pay attention mainly to the seams of the strap, in the frequently used areas should be a double seam to ensure durability and avoid rapid wear.
On the other hand, with metal, it is important that the metal is appropriately well painted and provided with a high quality alloy. No one wants to see silver metal stains on their black metal bracelet shortly after purchase. Also practical are interchangeable straps, which can be changed in seconds with a simple sliding mechanism.
The water protection of the watch
Basically, you can remember the following, the higher the ATM specification, the less sensitive the watch is to water:
1 ATM stands for 1 bar of water pressure and is not recommended, but it is still better than nothing.
3 ATM / Bar is the minimum value that the watch should have, which means that it is at least protected from splashing water.
5 ATM / bar is already good and should be the norm in the range up to 200 euros, but this is by far not always the case. (unfortunately) At 5 bar, it is possible to take a shower, for example, without removing the watch.
10 ATM are mostly incumbent on the higher watch price ranges. With 10 bar, it is easily possible to go with the watch, for example, snorkeling or swimming.
20 ATM is rare, but really very good from the tightness. The watch then has a water resistance of 20 bar, making it suitable for long-term diving.
The maximum watch height
It depends on the taste of the individual, but in our opinion it is quite important especially in business. The flatter the watch, the better it feels on the wrist, plus a flat watch simply goes better with an elegant outfit in the form of a suit or shirt, as it is also easier to hide. As a principle, it can be remembered that the flatter the watch, the more comfortable it is on the wrist.
In our experience, 5 to a maximum of 12 mm have proven to be very suitable on the wrist. Anything above this can already become uncomfortable and is only conditionally suitable for business outfits.
